I read the Chinese version of “Camille” a few years ago. And it also showed that Marguerite really loved Armand Duval for she could even change herself for him.
However, happiness didn’t last for long. When M. Duval, Armands father, came to her, pleading for her to leave Armand to save both Armands reputation and that of his younger innocent sister, Marguerite saw a way to become pure of heart, if not in body. She felt that it was her duty, because she loved Armand so much, to do this even though it meant giving up her own happiness and hurting Armand temporarily. She reluctantly returned to her former life, knowing that some day Armand would forgive her. Sadly, she died in debt and basically alone, except for her one female friend, Julie Duprat, who helped her during her illness. She had her journal sent to Armand after her death, explaining why she had made the choices she had. David Copperfield" sounds like a persons name, but how can it be a book? I did see this book today, and I benefited from reading it.
The main character, David Copperfield, lost his father at birth and his mother remarried to a despicable man who was extremely harsh to David and his mother. After his mothers death, he first went to Mr. Micawbers house and later to his aunts house, and his fate was tumultuous and his life was turbulent. After experiencing various sorrows and joys, David finally gets together with his beloved Ennis, and the book ends in a happy atmosphere.
The main character David can not sink in the hardships and twists because of his positive spirit and persistent efforts. Just like the main character Santiago in The Old Man and the Sea, he fights bravely, not giving up in the constant attacks of sharks, but fighting back more forcefully.
